Chapter 11: Let’s spend the first night

It was a dark night before the wedding day.

After receiving treatment, Livanfell came out of the bedroom and headed towards the Damask Palace.

Jaerim, who had been contacted in advance, was waiting in front of the Damask Palace with the knights under the emperor’s direct command.

“Your Majesty.”

“The Lupeon royal family?”

“They’re waiting inside.”

Livanfell nodded roughly and entered the Damask Palace.

Since the palace was built around the World Tree, it was known for its beauty and full of vitality.

Livanfell didn’t like the fact that those who bullied Terriella were staying in such a palace.

‘How dare they…’

When Livanfell entered, the Lupeon royal family hurriedly rose from their seats.

“G-greetings, Your Majesty…”

“I won’t take long. Who should take responsibility?”

As Livanfell sat at the head of the table, the knight next to him held out his sword. He drew his sword as if it were natural and cut through the air.

“I certainly warned you at the beginning.”

“Y-Your Majesty.”

“You’re the ones who ignored my warning. So, someone has to take responsibility. I bet you thought that the things happening here wouldn’t reach my ears.”

The Lupeon prince pursed his lips and lowered his head. He was certain this was just a marriage of convenience. He didn’t understand how the emperor cared this much.

“I heard that if you cut too many throats before the wedding, your newlywed life will not be smooth. So, I’m giving you a choice,” Livanfell said, waving his hand in annoyance as if he didn’t want to waste more time in a place like this. “Pick one victim yourself.”

The king of Lupeon looked up at Livanfell in confusion.

From the moment they met, the emperor mixed seriousness with jokes.

Could this be a joke?

Even though he was a tyrant of the great empire, he just said he’d kill the royal family like he was punishing some kind of criminal.

The king’s eyes moved quickly.

Emperor Livanfell, and aide next to him, and the emperor’s exclusive knights beside the aide, everyone stared at the Lupeon royal family, their expressions serious.

‘He means it.’

The king of Lupeon swallowed hard. It wasn’t just an anger of the emperor who did not think about the future.

Now, the emperor thought that this incident would turn into a national problem and acted accordingly.

Just for Terriella.

All the warnings he gave when he first set foot on Imperial soil were sincere. He told them to treat Terriella like an emperor when he wasn’t there.

Behind the emperor’s exclusive Knights, the maids of Damask Palace stood expressionless. They showed no kindness to the Lupeon family.

Chills ran down the king’s spine.

Eyes and ears for the emperor were all over the empire. He thought since the emperor was apparently a tyrant, he had given up on imperial politics.

The king bit his parched lips. “Y-Your Majesty.”

What the hell was Terriella to him? What did it mean that he’d do this?

“I understand your Majesty’s intentions, so please take your anger away.”

“What’s the point of knowing now? It’s too late.” Livanfell didn’t listen to the king’s excuses. “Decide quickly. It’s funny to think that even after treating the prospective empress of the great empire like that, you could return alive and well.”

“Cutting off the royal family’s lineage now with the emperor’s hands means a war, Your Majesty.” The king added all kinds of excuses to calm the emperor somehow. “If that happens, the peace treaty will be broken, so all countries on the continent will be turned into enemies…”

“I know. I’m ready. You must know that I think about that before I move, right?”

“…”

“It also brings shame to me to return those who have dared to belittle the empress of the Great Empire.” Livanfell arrogantly crossed his legs and looked at Jaerim standing next to him. “Isn’t that right, Jaerim?”

“…Normally, war is dangerous at a time like this, so I would advise you to be patient, but this time, Your Majesty is right.”

Jaerim stared coldly at the prince and princesses, who were still not fully aware of the situation.

“She is the one who will become the empress of the great empire. It would be a disgrace to the great empire to let those who scorned her off the hook.”

“Right?”

“I’ll help you with the rest, Your Majesty. We’ll spread its dignity and reputation to those who dare to belittle the Great Empire.”

After Jaerim said that, the prince and princesses finally realized the gravity of the situation and turned pale.

“P-please spare us, Your Majesty!”

“Your Majesty!”

The prince and princesses knelt down. They already knelt in front of Terriella once, so there’s no way it would be difficult to do it twice.

But the king still stood stiffly.

Livanfell didn’t like that. He was even more annoyed at the thought of how he would have treated Teriella in the same way he usually did.

Terriella told him not to step in because she would take care of it herself, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t sleep at night unless he returned the shame and humiliation Terriella had received.

He wanted to hang the king’s head on this spot and hang it at the castle gate. But Terriella would hate it, so he had to put up with it.

“If the Lupeon royal family kneels in front of me and promises that they will never see or speak to Terriella with their filthy tongue, then I will not slit their necks for their sincerity.”

Anger flashed across the king’s face. But what could he do? Even if he was furious, the kingdom was just a small country compared to the great empire.

“If I were to suggest a good plan for both countries…” Jaerim stared coldly at the king. “Why don’t we keep the things that happened here a secret between us without even telling the princess? Wouldn’t that be appropriate?”

In the first place, there was no choice. The king finally fell to his knees.

And the royal family left the empire before the wedding ceremony began.

Today was the wedding day.

My family left the empire as if they were running away before the wedding could even begin. It was probably because they didn’t want to see and acknowledge that I became the empress.

‘How could they run away like this?’

They knelt down and danced, but I still haven’t repaid all the insults I received.

I gently clenched my fists and gritted my teeth.

‘OK. I will often call you to come and go with trivial matters!’

I vowed to use the power I had gained very diligently.

My family would be upset just to see me become the empress of a great empire. I should call them very often!

The wedding went smoothly, just as Jaerim and Mrs. Merina told me.

Between the splendid chandelier and the pretty flowers, it was announced that Livanfell and I had become husband and wife.

Now was the last order of the ceremony.

High Priest Elihu spoke with a prayer to bless us.

“You may now share a kiss of oath that promises eternity.”

Fortunately, I was wearing a veil, so I didn’t have to make eye contact with Elihu in front of me.

‘Could I really do it?’

I stared at Livanfell through the veil. I didn’t know what he was thinking, but Livanfell also turned to face me.

Mrs. Merina approached me, removed my veil nicely, and stepped back.

The gazes on us were so hot that it stung. It was the first time in my life that I felt this kind of attention and concentration, so my body kept stiffening.

“Princess.”

As if he noticed my anxiety, Livanfell came closer.

Even last night, we were close, but strangely, today, I was nervous.

Unsurprisingly, every step he took drew a lot of attention. After all, Livanfell was the emperor who encompassed the Great Empire.

And I was here as his empress.

“Princess, look at me.”

My eyes were already on Livanfell, but I was too focused on my nerves.

As I took a deep breath, Livanfell’s large hand gently dug in and wrapped around my neck. And as soon as the warmth touched my cheek, cold with tension, my body naturally relaxed.

“Are you nervous?”

I shook my head.

“You seem nervous. Princess… No, Terry.” The name that flowed from Livanfell’s lips was sweet and fragrant, like a flower soaked in honey.

Despite all this attention, he was as natural as usual.

Well, not anyone could become the emperor of a great empire. He was a man of many great qualities and one worthy of the position of emperor.

“Many people are watching, right?”

Livanfel insisted on asking the obvious question again.

As if to get my affirmation.

“…Yes. It’s the emperor’s wedding.”

“So, you understand… Terry.”

What do you want me to understand?

He gently covered my cheeks with his two hands, and a big shadow approached.

“Close your eyes.”

And in the blink of an eye…

Waaaaah!”

Applause and loud shouts of blessing hit my ears as I felt something soft touch my lips.

It was a feeling I had never felt before. An indescribable thrill arose from the tip of my toes to my head.

Livanfell’s warm lips overlapped between my gaping lips. It was obviously hot enough to blow my mind away but cool enough to feel refreshed.

‘That’s enough…’

The first kiss left me breathless. As I instinctively tried to push him away to save my life, Livanfell wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me tight so I couldn’t escape.

“…”

As if he would not forgive me for running away, Rivanpel pursued me to the end and kept me close. Like a person who has longed for this moment, his hunger was not easily satisfied.

Just a little bit more.

If I run away, he’ll chase me.

But if I run away again, he’ll lock him in his arms.

Rivanfell never let go of me.

“…”

The wedding ended without a hitch.

Without a hitch? I wasn’t sure.

Honestly, I didn’t even remember how it went after the last ceremony.

I thought I greeted people, shook hands, and talked to them, but I didn’t remember anything.

It was only after everyone had withdrawn and I was left alone in the empress’ palace’s bedroom that I returned to my senses.

‘…I didn’t expect a situation like this.’

Because today was our wedding night, they said I should spend the first night with Livanfell in the empress’s palace instead of in the bedroom of the main palace.

Livanfell would visit me after midnight anyway, so I was used to being in the bedroom with him. No, I only thought I was used to it.

‘Why is this awkward?’

But now, I was so nervous that I couldn’t breathe properly and felt like I was going to die.

I was already so nervous even though I was still alone, but if Livanfell came, I wouldn’t be able to breathe and might really die.

Come to think of it, even though we met every day after midnight, we had never slept together in the same room.

After the treatment, Livanfell always returned to his bedroom!

But it’s different today.

It’s the wedding night, the first night. This meant that Livanfell and I would sleep in the same bedroom and wake up together.

Haa,” I breathed in to try to calm down.

Then, after a while, I heard footsteps, and Rivanfell, still wet from his bath, opened the bedroom door.

When our eyes met, he froze on the spot.

Time seemed to stop.

Livanfell did not enter the bedroom, nor did he go out. Instead, he stood there with a bewitched expression, his mouth slightly open.

“…Your Majesty,” An escort called him. Then, Livanfell was slowly dragged in front of me like a criminal being sent to their impending fate.

The door closed quietly.

Even when the footsteps outside faded, Livanfell stood blankly in front of me, still not saying anything.

Ahem.” Unable to bear the awkwardness, I cleared my throat while looking around.

Still, Rivanfell remained the same. It was obvious that he was tired all day long.

“I-I’m glad everyone’s gone before midnight.”

“…You’re really pretty.”

“Yes?”

I think the conversation was very different just now.

Confused, I looked at Livanfell. The eyes looking down at me were still out of focus. His face was slightly red, so he must be exhausted.

“…Your Majesty, are you very tired?”

“Does it look like that?”

“Yes.”

“…surely.”

Rivanpel reached out his hand. He must have held the sword for a long time because the palm wrapped around my cheek felt rough. It was an intense feeling that awakened all the senses in the body.

He covered my cheek with his palm and caressed the area below my eyes with his thumbs, as if confirming something he cherished so much was in his hands.

“…It’s tough. I’ve held it in so far.”

I got that…

The hand touching my face became more and more intense.

At first, the touch that gently rubbed my cheeks as if they were precious became increasingly fierce, and now, as if there was nothing to be hesitant about, he caressed them carelessly.

“…Whar you doi? (What are you doing?)”

I couldn’t speak properly because he was squishing my cheeks. On the other hand, Livanfell was smiling.

“I can’t take my hands off them.”

“Tak’mof (Take them off.)”

“It’s soft. My hands feel like they’re sticking together.”

Like a child who got the toy he wanted all along, Livanfell eagerly stroked my cheek, his expression proud.

The glittering golden eyes looked so happy. The tense atmosphere suddenly became lighter.

Was it because I was feeling lighter? I grinned as Livanfell held both my cheeks.

“Sto touchin! (Stop touching!)”

Then, Livanfell, jokingly touching my cheek, dropped his hands.

It was really a joke to the end.

But for a moment, Rivanpel’s unbalanced body leaned towards me. I lay down on the bed, feeling Livanfell’s weight on me since he didn’t have time to support himself with his hands.

“Uh…”

I could feel his body pressed against mine through the thin chemise.

Rivanfell, looking down at me, reached out his hand again. My body trembled as his hand, which had been touching my cheek, moved along the neckline.

“Today…” A suppressed voice flowed as if holding it back. “You’re not asking me to take off my clothes today. Princess… No, empress.”

“T-that’s because you don’t have those symptoms yet…”

“Then what if my hair turns white after midnight?” Rivanpel persistently asked, like a child who wanted to hear a pre-determined answer from me.

“It’s inevitable…”

Before I could finish speaking, I wondered if his dark hair had suddenly lightened.

“…Oh?”

It began to fade to white.

It was the first time I’d seen it change like this before.

His golden eyes shone more fiercely than usual. Fortunately, he didn’t look in pain, but the change I witnessed was intense enough to stick in my mind.

“…Now.”

Rivanfell gently stroked my lower lip with his thumb. It became hot in an instant as if the heat had spread.

“Are you going to ask me to take off my clothes now? Empress.”
